Compression, extraction, testing, and conversion
This page is task-first: each question maps to a concrete action in the app or Explorer context menu.
Frequently asked compression and extraction questions
How do I compress a folder in one click?
Select the folder in Pure Zip Core and click Quick ZIP. This is the fastest path for common packaging jobs.
How do I create ZIP or 7z with custom settings?
Use Add (or menu: create from selected items). In the dialog, choose output path, extension (
.zipor.7z), compression level, and optional split volume size. How do I add files into an existing archive?
Select the source items and run the update-existing-archive workflow. Then choose the target archive to append or refresh content.
How do I extract an archive to a specific location?
Select the archive and click Extract, then choose your destination. Explorer context menu extraction verbs are available when shell integration is present.
What is the difference between Quick ZIP and Add to archive?
Quick ZIP uses fast defaults for speed. Add to archive opens the full dialog for format, level, target path, and split-volume control.
How do split volumes work?
Enable split volume size in the create dialog. Pure Zip Core writes sequential parts so large archives can be transferred more easily. Keep all parts together before extraction.
How do I verify archive integrity without extracting?
Use Test. This checks archive readability and structure and is useful before upload, backup, or distribution.
Can I convert archives between formats?
Yes. Use Convert to transform supported source archives to another target format, such as ZIP to 7z, while preserving your workflow in one place.
What if extraction or compression fails?
Check file permissions, available disk space, path validity, and whether another process is locking files. Use Test first to isolate broken input archives.
Can I run these actions from Windows right-click menus?
Yes. Archive and folder context verbs are available through shell extension integration (for example quick zip, add to archive, and extraction actions).
